PRACTICAL

DRIVING  TEST

The Fast Track School of Driving is highly experienced at getting learner driver students to driving test standard as quickly as possible [see FTSD Method to pass the practical driving test]. The practical driving test usually takes between 45 & 60 minutes in total and involves: an eyesight test; an assessment of your general driving; and your competency on 1 of the 4 reversing exercises – i.e. either reversing around a corner; turning in the road; reverse parking; or bay parking + 10 minutes of independent driving (i.e. following traffic signs and/or verbal directions with or without a simple route diagram to a stated destination) + a possible emergency stop exercise.

The examiner will give you directions which you should follow while driving with appropriate control of the car and showing due consideration for other road users and safety, in accordance with the prevailing road conditions [especially at junctions & when changing speed or direction] – without creating a hazard for other road users by driving over-hesitantly. A conscious balance should be struck between the need to proceed with caution when required and making reasonable progress to the speed of the road where appropriate:  This is a central feature of the Fast Track School of Driving Method and if you follow it you will pass first time [see FTSD Guarantee to pass first time].  On the test you will need to drive to test standard in a typical range of road and traffic conditions without making any serious or dangerous driving errors (just one of which will result in a failed test result) and with minimal driver errors (over 15 of which will result in a failed test result or three or more of any one error type – the latter being at the professional discretion of the examiner). However, again if you strictly adhere to the Fast Track School of Driving Method you will pass first time [see FTSD Guarantee to pass first time].

You will only be advised to take the practical driving test when you are consistently independently driving at driving test standard and therefore have a very good chance of passing it first time.  Although it is your choice, the Fast Track School of Driving advises you to request of your examiner that he or she allow your Fast Track School of Driving instructor to sit in on the practical driving test. If you choose otherwise, you should still have your FTSD instructor sit in and listen to the debrief session at the end of the driving test. If you have not passed, this will highlight the areas to work on before you retake the test (after a minimum of 10 working days) and ensure that you have the best chance of passing the retake with the minimum number of additional lessons.

Please note that it is the professional aim of the Fast Track School of Driving to ensure you can pass the practical driving test first time and without undue cost.  It really does simply involve that you do as your Fast Track School of Driving Instructor advises [see FTSD Guarantee to pass first time].

Once you have passed the practical driving test you should then seriously consider taking the Fast Track School of Driving Pass Plus Course in order to increase your driving experience and confidence to reduce the car insurance premium on your first car [see pass plus driving course].
